For athletes, coaches & staff
A deeper relationship with God — right where you are.
Inner Life Spiritual Direction is for anyone inside competitive sports — player, coach, trainer, staff, or administrator — who longs to draw closer to God. This isn't about life after the game or transitioning out of a career; it's about meeting you exactly where you are in the present moment.
Approachable and down to earth — just as excited to work with the person doing great work behind the scenes as with a superstar on the roster. Everyone's met the same way: as a human being with an inner life of their own.
Twelve years on the sideline before twelve years in ministry.
I coached basketball from 1999 to 2011 — high school, community college, and NCAA Division II — living the same calendar you live. I know the travel, the scrutiny, and how little room there is inside a season to say what you are actually carrying.
That is the room this practice makes. No performance review, no film session. Just a confidential hour with someone who has been in the building.
You train the body. You train the mind. The third side rarely gets a slot on the calendar — and it’s the one that holds the other two together. Tending it is how the best version of you actually shows up, on the floor and off it.
It can help with
- Identity and purpose — becoming the best version of yourself through a deeper connection with God.
- Change — a trade, a marriage, a divorce, having children, a new role or season.
- The everyday — finding God in the ordinary aspects of life.
- Loss — a family member or friend, your health, or dealing positively with obstacles, setbacks, or disappointment.
- Awareness — recognizing and celebrating where God is already at work in your life.
- Discernment — gaining clarity, working through hard decisions, and finding how to thrive.

Bring it to your program
Whole-person support helps everyone in a program thrive.
The number one goal is to help any individual draw closer to God, while creating a space where they can recognize God at work in their lives.
- Who
- Players, coaches, trainers, staff, and administrators: anyone in the program who wants it.
- Format
- One-on-one sessions of about an hour, small groups, or a visit to speak with your team. In Person or via Zoom, scheduled around the season.
- Confidentiality
- What an individual shares stays between them and me. I don't report on individual conversations to coaches or staff.
- Alongside your staff
- Spiritual direction works alongside churches, pastors, team chaplains, and athlete-care staff, never in place of them.
